Two seasonal Yellowstone National Park concession workers have been fired after a live webcam caught them urinating into the Old Faithful geyser.

Park spokesman Al Nash says a 23-year-old man on Tuesday was fined $750 and placed on three years of unsupervised probation for urinating, being off trail in a restricted area and taking items from the area. The man also was banned from Yellowstone for two years. The second employee's case is pending.

The park's dispatch center was called after someone watching a webcam on the geyser saw six employees leaving the trail and walking on Old Faithful on May 4.

The geyser was not erupting at the time.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts general manager Jim McCaleb says the former concession workers were hired at the Old Faithful Inn and that such incidents were rare.

Wow

I cannot understand all of the controversy. Isn't this the reason it is called "Yellowstone"?

There's this old cop philosophy....

...called something like the 'broken window approach" and what it means is that cops should pay attention to the little problems in their block...like a window being broken...and fixing the little stuff means that somebody is watching...and then the bigger stuff doesn't happen.

That's how I feel about these guys...they're hired to take care of the park...not pee on it...and that's just what was caught on the webcam...

who cares

Have you ever been to old faithful? Its disappointing at best. Kinda makes you want pee in it. Give them a ticket for urinating in public and be done with it. What's the big deal?

No Way

These are people hired to work for the National Park. Urinating into Old Faithful is obscene. If they had merely been warned, what message would that have given about protecting national treasures?

Two Yellowstone Workers Fired

Isn't this being a little touchy-touchy. They should have gave them a warning and let it go at that.
