California Academy of Sciences

The California Academy of Sciences' Living Roof had to make our list. Why? Well, for one thing it's alive. The roof boasts plants, wildlife and butterflies that are all happily living high in the sky, in a manmade sanctuary. The Living Roof is open to the public, so go check it out and learn about how you can green your own roof.
