Van Jones, the charismatic civic leader who was tapped by President Obama to help push the administration's agenda for green jobs, resigned amid controversy over Labor Day Weekend.

"The matter surfaced after news reports of a derogatory comment Jones made in the past about Republicans, and separately, of Jones' name appearing on a petition connected to the events surrounding the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks," the Associated Press reported. "That 2004 petition had asked for congressional hearings and other investigations into whether high-level government officials had allowed the attacks to occur."

In a resignation statement, Jones said, "On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide."

Here at MNN, we have covered Van Jones frequently -- both before and after he was tapped by Obama. To help give you more background information about Jones, below are a sampling of articles we've written about him:

No Loss

Sorry, but I don't believe this administration really cares about the environment. Van Jones was using the environmental movement to further his agenda. Plenty of talk...no action.. environmentally. The administration loaned $10 billion to Brazil to drill offshore (Soros also involved)...how very environmentally sound.

It's a shame

It's to bad that we can't have a real discussion about important issues in this country. Unfortunately to many people rely on misinformation and character assassinations to win their political battles. I've admired Van Jones' work for several years and I wish he could have stayed.........we need the input of people like him.

It's Not a Shame

What's a shame is that someone like this was even in politics. This man is a racist, and only cares about himself. It's a shame that people admired him, mostly because of the color of his skin, not because of his words. If you listened to what Van Jones said, there is no way you could believe that he is in politics for the best interest of the American people. He obviously resigned because he could dish out negative comments about our former Presidents, but couldn't take a little heat.... More

one commie czar gone

One commie czar gone...now to work on the rest of the unconstitutional czars...yes I know republicans had them as well and they were just as wrong on the matter...but they didn't have nearly as many as King O.

Van Jones

That's so sad :(

change

I am so disappointing to hear this news this morning I have been debating with family and friends all weekend regarding the same issues he resigned over. IT can be very discouraging to hear the awful things said about a man who has, like the rest of us, questioned policy, procedures and intent of the former administration. A man who had no fear of making his questions known and bringing truth to a matter that has long been overshadowed by spin doctors. While the likes of Glenn Beck, Sean.... More

I Love the USA

Does everyone forget that we are the only country in the world who allows people from everywhere in the world to come here adn have the same freedom we do. I don't want the USA that my great great grandfather helped to create to change. My grandfather faught in WWII and my Dad faught in Vietnam. So many veterans faught and died so that we can continue to live the way we want to live. And now one guy says, we need to change everything about our country, and so many people are suckered in and.... More
