Education

Education is the transference of information and learning from one group of people (teachers) to another (students) typically in school setting on subjects ranging from general academia to specific disciplines.

In the U.S., formal education occurs in stages beginning with elementary school (primary education); followed by middle school and high school (secondary education).  Secondary education prepares students to transition to post-secondary education (e.g., college, university, trade or vocational school.)

The United States educational system is overseen by the Department of Education, who's mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. (Photo: Shutterstock)
