Jamie Oliver News

Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver is a chef, restaurateur, author and television personality known for his advocacy of healthy eating habits.

He grew up practicing in the kitchen of his parents' pub in Clavering, Essex, England. According to Wikipedia, his first cooking job was as a pastry chef at Antonio Carlucci's Neal Yard restaurant.

His first television series was called 'The Naked Chef.' Despite the show's title, the series did not feature any nudity. Instead, it focused on meals that were easy to prepare, or 'naked' in the sense of being simple.

The success of The Naked Chef led to several book deals, including "Return of the Naked Chef" and "Happy Days with the Naked Chef."

Oliver's first campaign to improve school food came in 2005 when "Jamie's School Dinners" aired in the United Kingdom. The four-part documentary recounted Oliver's efforts to change the students' eating habits at a typical British school. The success of the show led to larger changes in British school dinner programs, including a pledge from then-Prime Minister Tony Blair to fund better kitchen facilities and training.

In 2010, Oliver brought his 'Food Revolution' to the United States. He filmed a television series documenting his efforts to change unhealthy eating habits in Huntington, W.V. That city previously gained notoriety as being one of unhealthiest in the U.S. thanks to a 2008 report by the Centers for Disease Control.
