Train & Rail

Rail is an excellent green option for getting around. It has historically been a reliable and efficient way to move cargo and people. Trains produce a far smaller amount of emissions on a per-passenger-mile basis. Traveling via train also decreases traffic, saves travelers money on gas and car maintenance and yields many other benefits. There are programs in place, such as the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partners, which is designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution. Organizations like this work toward a cleaner, more efficient transportation future by adopting fuel-saving strategies that increase profits and reduce emissions. (Source: EPA / Photo: Flickr)
