UN

The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization consisting of 192 member states that was formed in 1945 after WWII to promote international peace, security and cooperation. Decision-making is conducted through various administrative bodies, the most notable being the General Assembly and the Security Council. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), a branch of the United Nations that seeks to address environmental issues at both the regional and global level, focuses on a wide range of activities regarding terrestrial, marine and atmospheric ecosystems.
