Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai takes heat for post-baby bod
Indian entertainment critics have harsh words for the famous actress, who they think owes it to Bollywood to lose her post-baby weight.

An Indian actress is in the news today, but for a very American reason.

Aishwarya Rai, a former Miss World contestant and one of Bollywood's biggest stars, is taking some heat from fans and the Indian press because she is not losing her baby weight fast enough. Rai gave birth last November to daughter Aaradhya with husband Abhishek Bachchan.

Wow, a whole six months and she still hasn't lost the weight? That's shocking! (Please note the tone of dripping sarcasm.)

While I'm being completely sarcastic, others are not, comparing the actress to the likes of Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham who bounced back to the pre-baby weight within weeks of delivery. Apparently, Indian fan blogs and entertainment boards have lit up with criticism for the star saying that as a Bollywood actress it is "her duty to look good and fit."

AAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH! Are you kidding me?

Rai has a 6-month-old child at home right now. Do you know who she has a duty to? That. Child. Not her fan club. Not caustic entertainment critics. Not Bollywood.

For right now, Rai doesn't deem too rattled by all of the negative press, stating that she just wants to "enjoy motherhood" — and not stress about the number on a scale.

Bravo, Ms. Rai!

Caring for a new baby is bar none the hardest work that any person could ever do. Some women handle the stress by diving back into work. Some hit the gym. Others curl up in bed whenever they can to squeeze in some extra zzz's. It's all good, as long as the end result is a happy, healthy baby and a healthy, sane mommy.

Kudos to women like Jolie and Beckham who are able to get back into shape after having children. Seriously, that is an awesome accomplishment.

And kudos too to women like Rai who put workouts on the back burner for a few months until they can get their feet under them again after having a child.

What do you think of the treatment Rai is getting from the Indian press?

So unfair. But, my daughter had a baby on Tuesday and from the pictures I have seen, she looks maybe 5 lbs heavier than she did when she got married a few years ago. (and she was tiny) Others who have seen the pictures have immediately said "I hate her." which is just as unfair. I wasn't a fast baby weight loser and even the pregnancy where I left the hospital lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, I didn't look fit. I have been judgey of those women who lose it fast--but then I see my girl and my new

baby. I know she eats. I know her maternity photo shoot showed an enormous belly. She had an 8 lb (beautiful, incredible, perfect!) baby boy. She's breastfeeding him and reportedly has an enormous amount of milk already. But, it is still too early to say she worked to get that body back. (other than the hard work of more than a day of labor)
