Ah, those glamorous days of breast-feeding
. I fondly remember the days of nursing my daughters while stylists brushed my hair, painted my fingernails, and applied make-up to my face.
Oh wait, that never happened to me. Or to any normal mom that I ever talked to. But that super-glamorous scene did happen recently for Gisele Bundchen
, the Brazilian supermodel mom who instagrammed the moment of her breast-feeding her daughter Vivian Lake while a team of stylists does her hair, makeup, and nails for a photo shoot. She captioned the shot, "What would I do without this beauty squad after 15 hours flying and only 3 hours of sleep #multitasking #gettingready."
Here's the full shot:
As you might expect, the photo - which by now has been splashed across all forms of social media - has been met with both high praise and intense criticism.
On Twitter, the comments ranged from this one:
to this one:
But then again, Gisele is no stranger to controversy, particularly when it comes to breast-feeding. In 2010, the supermodel found herself in hot water by suggesting that all new moms should be required by law to breast-feed
. But before you jump on the Gisele hate-train, consider this...The woman is a super-model. And while that is not a life that I can even comprehend, I do understand that the very nature of that job is based upon her physical appearance.
If Gisele were an accountant and she took a picture of herself breast-feeding at her desk, everyone would be cheering her on. Granted, the picture would not have received worldwide attention, but that's all the more reason to applaud her efforts. She is a woman, at work, breast-feeding her child. And that is a very beautiful thing.
