The green crib: Nursery quilts and blankets
Baby blankets get a ton of mileage and can make a lasting impression on Junior. Why not outfit your nursery with design-forward blankies made from organic cotton?

Welcome to the third installment of “The green crib,” a new series of posts where I focus on a single room in the home where an adult’s good green influence — and decorating sense — will ideally rub off on said room’s primary inhabitant: a little one.

Thus far, I've covered eye-catching, eco-friendly mobiles and earth- and baby-safe nursery cleaners. Today, in the spirit of hunkering down and cozying up for fall, here's a look at a dozen organic cotton nursery quilts and blankets. Choosing organic bedding materials — I'll be highlighting crib sheet sets in the coming weeks — is important given that you probably don't want Junior rolling around in something, no matter how soft and lovable, that's been treated with chemical pesticides. Plus, baby's bedding and blankets will most likely leave a huge impression on them. Heck, I still remember my Marimekko Bo Boo bedding and my hand-sewn "blankies" that I clung to well past infanthood — I'm talking middle school here — until they were basically sad little shreds of fabric. Do you remember your childhood blankets and bedding?
