Looking for a fun and meaningful camp for your kids this summer? Check out the options from YEA, or Youth Empowered Action camps.

YEA has three camp locations: Portland, Ore.; Pescadero, Calif.; and Lanoka Harbor, N.J. Each site offers week-long summer camp sessions for 12- to 17-year-olds who want to make a difference in their communities.

There are lots of camps that will teach kids how to sing campfire songs and roast marshmallows, but at YEA camp, kids will also learn how to run a recycling campaign, speak in front of a crowd, raise funds for their favorite cause, or start a green club at school.

Kids at YEA camps develop skills, tools and confidence they need to get involved in issues they care about and display leadership and how to make a difference. Camp graduates have gone on to do such things as speak at local hearings on climate change issues, initiate school anti-bullying clubs, raise awareness and funds to stop child sex trafficking, and launch a vegan bakery.

The cost of attending the week-long camp is $950 and scholarships are available.
