Looking for some family fun this weekend that doesn't break the bank? Why not hit one of your favorite local museums, or venture out to a new one? This Saturday, Sept. 29, is Museum Day Live, when admission to thousands of museums across the country will be free.
Sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine, Museum Day Live is an annual event that helps reconnect Americans with their favorite museums. The only catch? You have to register for an official Museum Day Live ticket to the museum of your choosing. So you may not want to wait until the last minute to decide to go. And you can only request one ticket per household that is good for two people. So you won't be able to sneak the whole family of four in for free, but you can make a significant dent in the price if you only need to pay for a couple of kid admissions. Still, it's a great deal, and with so many museums participating, you're bound to find an interesting one near you to try.
Check out the list of 2012 participating museums at the Smithsonian Magazine website.
