Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Seussically great ways to celebrate this awesomely auspicious day!

Happy Birthday to a true original, Dr. Seuss! When it comes to children's books, Dr. Seuss is the stuff of legends. His stories have managed to transcend time and touch children for generations. Sometimes, his stories are silly, like Green Eggs and Ham or The Cat In The Hat. While stories like The Butter Battle Book and Yertle The Turtle, touch on larger issues with amazing clarity. And of course, Dr. Seuss has earned a special place in the hearts of greenies with his story of The Lorax, a tale with an environmental message that was as true when it was published in 1971 as it is today. Take a minute today to share your favorite Seuss tale with your children (or just read it yourself.) And if you really want to celebrate, you can try one of these magical crafts:
  • Make your own Cat In The Hat hat
  • Paint your kid's feet to create your own foot book
  • Eat bread with the butter side up (or down)
  • Discover the properties of oobleck
  • Make Horton's pink clover
  • Serve breakfast (you know what to make!) on this Green Eggs and Ham placemat

Don't forget to check out the Seussville website to play games, learn more about Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel), and find a Read Across America event in your area where you can take your kids to celebrate Dr. Seuss' books with fun-filled games and special appearances by the Cat in the Hat.

I've got a bunch of Seuss stories in the lineup for today including The Foot Book, Cat In The Hat, and my ultimate favorite, Oh, The Places You'll Go! So what's your favorite story by Dr. Seuss?

... but I have to go with "Fox in Socks." I would make my babysitters and parents read it to me over and over and over.
