Walk to School Day

Get out your walking shoes, everybody. Wednesday (Oct. 3) is International Walk and Bike to School Day, and that means that even if you don't normally walk or ride bikes with your kids to school, you might want to make an extra effort to do so.

Why?

Well, for starters, a little exercise is a great way to start the day, for both you and your kids. It wakes up the muscles and gets juices flowing to the brain that might otherwise still be groggy. Need more incentive to leave the car in park? Here goes ...

1. It's fun
2. It promotes a cleaner environment
3. It reduces traffic (and the stress you get from being stuck in it.)
4. It saves you money on gas
5. It gives you more of that extra-special time you can share with your kids.

Chances are, if your school is promoting a Walk to School Day event, you would have heard about it by now. But even if you didn't know about it, that doesn't mean you have to get left out of the fun. Walk your kids to school anyhow. If you live too far away, drive to a spot near the school and walk from there. The idea is just to get out of the car — even if it's just for the last few minutes of your commute.

Are you planning to walk or bike with your kids to school? Let me know how it goes!
