The National Wildlife Federation is bringing the wonder of wildlife to its newest magazine, Ranger Rick Jr. Formerly known as Your Big Backyard, Ranger Rick Jr. is for kids ages 4 to 7 who want to learn more about nature and how to have fun outdoors.

Unlike big brother Ranger Rick magazine, which is intended for children ages 7 to 12, Ranger Rick Jr. will engage beginning readers who are curious about nature and wild animals. Ranger Rick Jr. features Ricky Raccoon, who serves as a mascot and guide throughout the magazine, helping kids see just how amazing wild animals can be.

Ranger Rick Jr. rolled out with a November issue that is all about lions. Each issue features age-appropriate facts about kids' favorite wildlife along with some pretty awesome photography. Kids will also get crafts, recipes and outdoor activity ideas that aim to encourage kids to get out in their own environment to explore.

Ranger Rick Jr. will be published 10 times a year and will be advertising-free. Newsstand price is $3.99, or $19.95 for an annual subscription.

Sounds like a great holiday gift for the little adventurers on your shopping list!
