Summer is here (well almost!) and the kids are out of school.  Of course, mine will spend the better part of their summer days running around the backyard and splashing around in any lake, river, pool, or ocean they can get to.  But when they are indoors, I want to make sure that their little brains don't completely melt away with the summer heat.

I'm a writer, so of course, I love a good book.  Especially a good book that printed in some sort of eco-conscious manner so as to avoid unnecessary waste and chemical use.  I stumbled across a list of books today that totally fit the bill.  Rainforest Action Network has created a list of 25 "rainforest-safe" children's books are printed on post-consumer recycled, FSC certified or recycled paper.  You can find all 25 titles on their website, and here are my top 10 favorites:

  1. The Lorax by Dr. Seuss
  2. The Magic School Bus and the Climate Challenge by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen
  3. Bunny’s Garden (Pat the Bunny) by Golden Books
  4. Nature Discovery in My Backyard by Rebecca Mattano
  5. The Day The Trash Came Out To Play by David M. Beadle
  6. The Curious Garden by Peter Brown
  7. Curious George Plants A Tree by H.A. Rey
  8.  Planting the Trees of Kenya: The Story of Wangari Maathai by Claire A. Nivola
  9. Trees For The Okapis by Jorge Aguirre
  10. The Tree by Dana Lyons
