England’s Ethical Home Furnishings company, Biome, makes a door-sized, felt Advent calendar perfect for ushering in the holiday. The brightly colored pockets can be refilled each year with treats. More importantly, the fair trade calendar is handmade by — and also benefits — a small cooperative of women in Kathmandu, Nepal.

In my family we always used the same calendar every year, it was much like a lot of these in that you just opened a door and there was a prize inside...only on ours it was an ornament to decorate the Christmas tree with... very neat and you didn't have to buy candy each year!
