Blue Lagoon

This man-made hot spring is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland, and it's easy to understand why.

In addition to providing heat to homes, the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power plant also releases wastewater that is then fed to the Blue Lagoon for recreational purposes.

Because geothermal power is such a clean source of energy, the wastewater is not only safe — it's downright good for you! Many people who suffer from skin conditions such as psoriasis swear by the warm, mineral-rich waters to temporarily soothe their ailments.
