Denise Richards' love for animals is making news again with reports that the 40-year-old has adopted a blind pup from an animal shelter.

According to Fox411.com, Richards decided to adopt a dog after mourning the loss of her mother's dog. "I reached out to Best Friends Animal Society to adopt a dog that was hard to place,” Denise Richards told the site. “I ended up adopting a blind dog, Preston, from their shelter.”

Best Friends Animal Society does phenomenal work helping find homes for abandoned and abused pets. Silva Battista, who co-founded the organization, says that Richards' support over the years has been invaluable.

“She frequently comes down to the shelters to help us with whatever we need," Battista said. "She also sponsors animals, she comes out for our events and she really understands the issues. She’s been amazing.”

On May 21-22, Best Friends will be holding a Love is in Bloom pet adoption event at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. “There will be many different rescue groups there, including city and county shelters," Battista told FOX411. "It’ll be a festival in the park to encourage people to adopt.”
