Unfortunately, no independent & verifiable evidence ever emerged that the disappeared “loyal tsunami dogs” were rescued or received veterinary care.

Sinbad served on board the US Coast Guard Cutter CAMPBELL for 10 years before "retiring" to Barnegat CoastGuard Station. Smoky a four pound yorkie of the 5th AAF earned eight battle stars from New Guinea to Okinawa "43-'45, saved planes and men from possible destruction over a three day period during the battle of Luzon. Flew 12 combat missions and is the first therapy dog of record.

We have had 8 Skye Terriers, love them. They are super dogs for adults and children.

Fully agree. There were some mice, rats, and a monkey popped out to orbit too I think...sent to certain death.

I usually love articles on animals but i consider what they did to Laika animal creulty!!! It's no better than retarded owners leaving there dogs in hot cars. It's really digusting that they would put a defenseless animal in that situation. For the sake of science. Imagine what it would have felt like to literally die of heat exhaustion??!

While Balto was the lead dog for the last leg of the diptheria run, Leonhard Seppala's lead dog, Togo, is the true hero. Togo covered the longest and most hazardous leg. He made a round trip of 261 mile, almost double the distance of any other team including Balto's. Togo was 12 years old at the time.

Balto was just in the right place at the right time, Togo was the lead dog that saved the shipment.
