Sure, the Garden State has more rugged, less built-up dog-friendly beaches where the emphasis is more on natural beauty than any kind of scene (the dog beach at Manasquan Inlet is one of the most popular). However, for a true Jersey Shore experience with your four-legged bestie, you can’t beat gritty and glorious Asbury Park.

Although dogs are verboten on the boardwalk, they do get their very own beach where, during the summer, they’re allowed to romp (supervised) in the sand before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. During the off-season, anything goes: No leashes are required and the beach is open to pooches and their owners all day. After a long day at the beach, jog on over to Yappy Hour. This dog-park-with-booze event is held on the deck of popular local watering hole Wonder Bar six nights a week. No spiked collars, bad attitudes, outside snacks or humping is allowed; “dog security” is on-hand to make sure everyone plays by the rules.
