From getting you outside for daily exercise to helping you cope with a disability, there are many ways a dog can be a superhero, and PetSmart plans to turn three such super pooches into comic book stars.
The pet retailer wants to recognize the heroic characteristics of every dog, so in honor of its new Marvel and DC Comics pet collection, it's hosting a dog superhero photo contest.
To enter, submit a picture of your dog on PetSmart's contest page. Be sure to include an explanation of why your powerful puppy or courageous canine is a superhero to you in 100 words or fewer. Entries will be accepted through July 24.
The top 10 photo entries will win superhero-inspired pet gear. Fans will then select three grand-prize winners to receive drawings of their dogs, which will be done by an official DC Comics artist.
PetSmart will also donate $5 for each entry up to $20,000 to PetSmart Charities to help save homeless pets in the United States and Canada. The donations will be put toward spaying-and-neutering and adoption programs, as well as emergency relief efforts and other animal-welfare programs.
The Marvel and DC Comics pet collection features a variety of T-shirts and toys that can be found exclusively at PetSmart.
