Rescue dog becomes first canine to climb Mount Everest
A stray dog rescued from a dump in India made history recently by being the first dog to reach the base camp of Mount Everest at 17,000 feet above sea level.
Joanne Lefson found Rupee starved and near death, so she took the puppy to her home in South Africa, where she nursed him back to health. When he was strong enough, the pair embarked on an expedition to climb the world’s tallest mountain. It's a continuation of Lefson's work to promote the adoption of animals in need.
