In the last 11 days, more than 260 animals have been brought into the Lowndes County Animal Shelter. Of the 260, 167 were euthanized. The shelter is typically has three to four dogs per cage, but currently it's averaging about five to six per cage. Paige Dukes, public information officer, says that the overpopulation problem is a direct result of people not spaying or neutering their pets.
