Last week, you undoubtedly heard the story about Whitney Kropp
, the bullied teen from West Branch, Mich., who was named to her school's homecoming court as a prank by fellow students. Kropp was devastated by the prank and her classmates' decision to make her the butt of jokes. But rather than hide in her room and suffer in silence, this amazing teenager faced her bullies and with her whole community rallied around her — and she had the last laugh on homecoming night.
This weekend, Kropp not only attended her school's homecoming game, she owned it. The entire community — including those from the opposing team — rallied around Whitney, wearing T-shirts, scarves, hats and bandanas in her favorite color (orange) and chanting "Whit-ney, Whit-ney" throughout halftime when the homecoming court was announced.
According to reports, Whitney looked like the belle of the ball with a gown, jewelry, shoes, plus her hair and makeup styling all donated for the big event.
In this interview with NBC, Whitney says the whole affair has given her a chance to deliver a message to others like her. "The kids that are bullying, do not let them bring you down," she says. "Stand up for what you believe in, and go with your heart and go with your gut. That's what I did, and look at me now."
She added: "I'm just as happy as can be."
Whitney Kropp, you are one class act.
