i have one of these infra red temp sensors (not this model), and i cannot impress enuff how handy these gadgets are. From checking out the cold spots in your home in winter, the temps of your fridge/freezer, if your coffee is too hot or cold, pasteurizing food and canning, if a surface is too hot to touch and much more. Gottalovit. And it can be as green as your imagination wants it to be.

I especially like the draft detector and the smart vents. I think it's time for a trip to the nearest Home Depot or Lowes!
