Are horse parts really used to make glue or is that just an icky rumor?
Q: I’m a newbie elementary school teacher with a rather odd question. Last week, I attempted to lead my class in a Valentine's Day crafting free-for-all. Construction paper, glitter and all the fixin’s were distributed. The final items passed around were little, innocuous bottles of Elmer’s Glue.

This is not the sticky wicket you might think it is... how about good old fashioned wheat flour paste? Easy to make, archivally sound, plenty sticky for whatever your little darlings are making.

Very interesting. The other point to note is that even though the U.S.'s final few horse slaughter plants have been shut down, there is still a big business in Canada and Mexico, and American horses are still being sent over for rendering. It's wonderful to hear that Elmer's is no longer using animal products for their glue, however, I must caution that there are still glue factories out there that do. I've witnessed many horse auctions where horses are sold for next to nothing and literally taken off to the glue factory. LIVE horses that no one wants anymore are slaughtered and their parts split up for glue.
