2 West Coast states are moving a lot of electric cars, thanks to hard work and great subsidies. But 6 states on the East Coast are pledging to do their part as well.

It was one of President Obama's signature stimulus programs, and it looked like a roaring success — at the time. Now it's getting some bad reviews, but with some reforms it's still a viable concept.

In 25 of 27 EU countries, bikes rule. And there's compelling evidence that pedaling increases the national happiness quotient. Americans? We don't cycle much, and we're not very happy.

I was there when we started selling Toyotas, though everyone made fun of them back then. Soon it was all over, and imports ruled.
