Biodiesel powers Kid Rock's Badass Beer
Last weekend Kid Rock launched his own brew, American Badass Beer, at two concerts he performed in Detroit. He’s been working with the Michigan Brewing Co. for the past year on the beer he describes in the Detroit Free Press as “American-style lager … easy to drink without an aftertaste.”"I'm American, that's what I like to drink, and from looking around the parking lot before my shows, I know that's what my fans drink," Kid Rock said.
MBC also houses the Biorefinery Training Facility, which includes a biodiesel-making operation. Both the stills and biodiesel refinery are used for research, teaching and outreach. Combined, they are training dozens of people to tap into the emerging green bioeconomy.MSU’s student body, largely unaware, is also contributing to the enterprise. Recycled fryer grease from campus cafeterias and the canola seed from Charlotte are the two sources of the biodiesel that MBC uses to power its steam generator to heat water to make beer.
I wonder if a beer that’s made for the American masses that’s easy to drink and has no aftertaste has any taste at all. I suppose I should reserve my judgment until I actually get a chance to taste it.

I have been to the brewery many times over the last couple weeks. You can purchase a glass of beer at their restaurant. I have purchased a couple of growlers, and it by far is going to give Sammy A and Mr. Bud a run for their money. It does live up the the "no aftertaste" comments coming from afar and it is one of the best beers I have tasted. I'm not being bias because I am truly a diehard Kid Rock fan either. When you get a chance to try it, you will be raising an eyebrow and thinking not.... More

I'm going to his concert tomorrow in Raleigh so if there is some there I'll try it. But it sort of defeats the point to ship it across the country, anyway...

This is wonderful. I think this is a great step towards eco-friendlier production of beer. Maybe this will trigger other celebrity entrepreneurs and companies!

about Sting making biodynamic wine. Hmmm. I think you've just given me an idea for a post. Thanks.

I really find this interesting. Beer is a huge thing not just in the USA but the rest of the world. If other manufactures would just jump on the bandwagon it would great.
Posted By Robin Shreeves - Thu, Jul 23 2009 at 3:29 PM ESTI've been reading a lot about
small breweries lately, and it seems many of them are jumping on the bandwagon. Some of the large manufacturers are, too. It's been encouraging to learn what I've been learning. There are probably more that we don't know about because they don't put the info on their websites.

As a Michigander, who lives 30 miles from the MBC site, I would almost guarantee this is a good brew. Everything that comes out of that brewery is fabulous (with a horrible exception to the Raspberry Lambeck-awful-maybe its not my taste?) Their IPA is out of this world. Kid Rock...whatever. MBC=Amazing.
Posted By Robin Shreeves - Thu, Jul 23 2009 at 3:30 PM ESTGood to know
they make good beer. If I ever come across Kid Rock's brew, I just may have to give it a try.

Some of us like that raspberry beer! : ) of course, I'm not a beer connoisseur so.......that explains a lot!
