With everyone from pop group Hanson to Internet meme Grumpy Cat coming out with branded beverages, it seems only fitting that author EL James would seek to pair her erotic romance novel with red and white wine.
The 50-year-old has announced that starting Monday, fans of her "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy can pick up "Red Satin" and "White Silk" wines online for $17.99 each. Both bottles carry the amusing tagline "You. Are. Mine."
"Wine plays an important role in Fifty Shades of Grey, adding to the sensuality that pervades a number of encounters between the characters," she writes. "I’ve always had a penchant for good wine, so combining two of my passions to blend Red Satin and White Silk was a natural extension of the Fifty Shades trilogy. I hope all of you curl up with a glass as you enjoy the romance between Anastasia and Christian."
Tasting notes for the white, a blend of Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc., state "floral aromatics of lychee, honey and pear....tempered by flavors of crisp grapefruit, mineral and lush pear with a faint hint of butterscotch." The red, a blend of Petite Sirah and Syrah, is a "decadent blend has flavors of black cherry, cocoa powder, creamy caramel and vanilla, leather and clove spice."
They both certainly sound sexy, but I'd wait for some taste tests to show up online before deciding to add these to your wine collection.
