I went to my first wine expo this past weekend. My friend Susan and I traveled up north a bit to attend the Boston Wine Expo at the Seaport World Trade Center. I visited perhaps ¼ of the vendors and was surprised to find only one organic winery. I’ll be telling you about the husband-and-wife team I met from Italy who create fabulous organic wines later this week.

Although I didn’t find much in the way of organic wines, I did learn a lot. And Susan and I got to meet some great people. We had a chance to speak for a moment with Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV, the self-trained wine expert who was the keynote speaker at the expo. He is just as animated, enthusiastic and energetic in person as he is on his daily video blog that educates the masses (his blog has about 60,000 viewers) on wine. You can see Susan in the picture above talking with Gary, who had just said something he thought was very funny.

He explained that he had grown up in a wine shop and learned what he knows about wine from that experience. He told us that not only was he a self-proclaimed wine expert, he was self-proclaimed awesome. Susan and I were also given handy reusable Wine Library TV wine bags – they look like a reusable grocery bags, but they are divided into six compartments to carry six bottles of wine.

I had heard buzz about Wine Library TV, but after meeting Gary, I had to check it out. Gary video blogs about wine, and he tastes wine on each episode several times a week. It’s very entertaining and I got sucked in for a good half hour this morning checking it out. My favorite was a 19-minute video dedicated to Trader Joe’s famous Two Buck Chuck line.

No where else are you going to hear someone review a wine like this, “sugar water – water you put sugar on it because you had no soda around the house and then you dumped like an action figure in there that you had played outside with in your underpants.” This was the Trader Joe’s Beaujolais Nouveau. He wasn’t that hard on all the wines. He had decent things to say about their Shiraz and their Sauvignon Blanc.

If you are looking for some wine education and some wine entertainment, check out Gary Vaynerchuk and his Wine Library TV episodes.
