Meals on bicycle wheels

Pedaling is a new web-based video series that combines cycling, food and spirits.

Wed, Jan 13 2010 at 2:41 PM EST

New York City has many varied neighborhoods — each with its own culinary flavor. Pedaling: A Spirited Food and Cycling Adventure Series will to take us through many of those neighborhoods.
This Urban PEDALING series focuses on the city-centric and eco-conscious commuter, the hip fixie pedaler with his underground eateries, and the dedicated female road rider who finds secret cycling gems amidst this concrete mecca. Their adventures will bring us on backdoor visits to prominent local chefs, offer tips on easy bike-snack shopping at organic markets, and weather hours in the saddle to track down a mobile brick pizza oven deep in Brooklyn.

PEDALING: NYC — "Pizza Fixation" from Iri Greco/Panforte Productions on Vimeo.

The first episode Pizza Fixation has chef Chris Jaeckle shopping at a Whole Foods to buy ingredients for pizza. He and his friends pick up some unusual items — brussels sprouts, pork loin, clams, duck eggs, beer and some cheese (okay, cheese isn’t so unusual, but the rest aren’t your usual pizza toppings) — and then carry them via bike into Brooklyn. They take them to a chef at mobile pizza oven in Brooklyn to see what he can create for them.

I’m hooked on Pedaling after seeing just their first two episodes, and I look forward to their next installment. The videos are under eight minutes long — perfect for when I’m taking a short break from writing.

Take a look at the above video and let me know what you think.
