Standout beverages from Natural Products Expo
Two bottled, cold drinks stood out from the many beverages our food blogger sampled at the Expo.

I’m still not done telling you about some of the products that stood out when I was at Natural Products Expo East a couple of weeks ago. I’m spacing the posts out so I don’t overwhelm you with new product information.

Today, I want to tell you about the two bottled beverages that I was impressed with – one that is sure to please the kids and one that will please adults and kids with more adventuresome palates.

First up is Sneaky Pete’s Oatstanding fruit beverage. That’s not a typo. Sneaky Pete’s is an oat-based beverage, but it no way resembles drinking oatmeal through a straw. One bottle of Sneaky Pete’s contains 3 grams of fiber and only 40 calories from natural sweeteners. You may be thinking that this is the beverage that I said would be for adults and kids with more adventuresome palates, but you’d be wrong. I think, and so did the others tasting around me, that kids will love this drink.

I tasted the Peach Perfection and the Raspberry Berret flavors and they were very good. They were smooth and crisp – not thick like you might think a drink made with oat fiber would be. They were basically juicy. The woman next to me tasted the Apples Away, and said it was surprisingly delicious. She also mentioned that she would use it as the liquid in a smoothie, and I thought that was a great idea.

Sneaky Pete’s is available in many grocery stores, but if you can’t find it in one of your local stores, they offer free shipping when you purchase Sneaky Pete’s online.

The second beverage I want to bring to your attention is Blue Buddha Herbal Tea. Blue Buddha is marketed as “four sophisticated flavorful cold drinks offering naturally efficacious benefits in a 14 oz. glass bottle.” That’s a lot of hype to live up to. The two flavors that I tasted, the Vitality (Hibiscus Raspberry Revitalizing Herbal Tea) and the Wellness (Elderberry Lemon Nourishing Herbal Tea) were very good. I brought home a few bottles of the Vitality and my husband and teenaged son really liked it.

There are no artificial sweeteners or preservatives in the teas, and they are non-GMO, Kosher, Fair Trade, and non-caffeinated. Each 14 oz. bottle has only 20 calories. I’m not familiar enough with the various types of teas and how they can effect the mind and body (although I believe they can; I’m just not educated in it) to say that these teas will actually improved your vitality or your wellness, but they certainly can quench your thirst while being good tasting, low-calorie, and all-natural.

Blue Buddha is a new product and its website has no information about where to buy the teas yet. But keep your eye out for this tea, and if you happen to come across it, try a bottle.
