Photo: Team Organic NYC Vegans, vegetarians and the veggie-curious will be lined up on the streets of Greenwich Village this Sunday, May 17 for the Veggie Pride Parade. The parade begins at noon in the Olde Meat District (purposely chosen, I’m sure) and ends up at Union Square Park North. The parade is being sponsored by the VivaVegie Society, a New York City-based vegan advocacy group.
For the second year, the parade’s grand marshals are PeTA’s Chris P. Carrot and Penelo Pea Pod. At last year’s parade this mixed veggie couple were married, and this year they will be accompanied by their baby veggies. A naming ceremony for their offspring will take place near the end of the day’s festivities of music, speakers and exhibitors at Union Square. I wonder what it looks like when you cross a carrot and a pea?
Participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes and wear signboards with veggie-themed slogans. There will be prizes for best costumes and for best signboard slogans.
Last year, about 800 people marched in support of the veggie cause. Organizer Pamela Rice believes that this year’s parade will be even bigger.
"Each of the some 800 people who marched in last year's parade is sure not only to be there again this year but to bring a friend, too." Rice said, "I'm hoping that at this event people will see vegans and vegetarians come out of the shadow, once and for all."

OK, in all honesty, Robin, this sounds a bit cheesy . . .

Well, it might be cheesy for the vegetarians, but it's not cheesy for the vegans. They stay away from cheese (sorry couldn't resist).

They are both threatened by the "food safety" bills in congress
It's time the organic community - whether vegetarian, vegan, grassfed animal-eating, organic food-eating, woke up to the immense threat of those bills.
HR 875 (at a minimum) contains CODEX Alimentarius.
Codex is a standards commission under the auspices of WHO/FAO [UN], but began with the Nazis.
