Are you still using plastic grocery bags?

I’m constantly amazed at how many people have yet to switch over from plastic bags to reusable bags. I’m constantly amazed at how often I, myself, forget to bring my reusable bags to the store and end up walking away with a plastic bag. I’ve been known to leave the grocery store with a cart full of unbagged food, but sometimes, a quick acting cashier will have things in a bag before I can open my mouth.
There’s a movement by Blue Avocado that is literally trying to get the ball rolling on bagging the bags. The Billion Bag Pledge is attempting to get 1 billion bags off the streets this year by having people pledge to use fewer plastic bags. As I write this, consumers have pledged to use 181,221 fewer bags in the next year.
I think the easiest way to do this is with your regular grocery shopping. It’s not always easy to remember your reusable bags. It’s a little easier to remember them with a weekly habit like going to the grocery store than it is to remember them when you’re just stopping by a store on your way home from work for one item. So, if you want to start bagging your plastic bag habit, try pledging the average number of plastic grocery bags you use a week.
