To the high and might vegetarians who think that avoiding turkey is a compassionate choice: you're being a little narrow minded.
- Farms are working landscapes that provide ecosystem services such as wildlife habitat, clean water and air, and food for people.
- Without farms the landscape will be "developed" into sprawl for the wealthy elite to have yet another "wild" playground

How about the option of respecting turkeys the way you would respect the rest of the earth by sparing them death for taste or pleasure? Animals don't want to die for our taste buds, and its more sustainable to eat a local vegan diet by cutting out the middle "man" (aka the animals that require a lot of grain to raise) and just eat a plant based diet.

Try starting a new Thanksgiving tradition by adopting a turkey instead of killing one. There are organizations like this one http://www.adoptaturkey.org/
And there are really SO MANY other great plant based foods to eat that my family doesn't miss it.

No such thing as Vegan
There is no such thing as vegan - every plant-based food contains insects, insects parts, larvae and eggs (yes, things with faces that live and breathe and did not "want" to die). Just check the FDA's "Food Defects" page of allowable insects/parts in foods such as pastas, fruits, and veggies (ex: 225 insect fragments in one box of macaroni, 120 aphids/thrips in a box of frozen broccoli, etc.). Note that "defect" for insects is merely "aesthetic", and insects contribute some nutrition to food,.... More
