Blackberries are abundant right now. You can get them at farmers markets or find a Pick Your Own farm to get the freshest berrries possible. Here are five recipes for blackberries that go beyond pies and jams. Yum.

  1. Sweet CousCous with Blackberries – An alternative to warm breakfast cereals, this recipe combines cooked couscous with sweet honey and blackberries, pistachios and yogurt. A nice power breakfast.
  2. Honey Almond Financiers – Blackberries make a fruity topping for these French petite cakes made with almond meal and made rich with butter.
  3. Purple Smoothie – Blackberries, banana, peanut butter, milk and ice combine to make the purplest smoothie you’ve ever seen. I can imagine these would go over big at a birthday party with a princess theme.
  4. Chevre, Berries & Sundried Tomato Salad – Blackberries, goat cheese and nuts are tossed with spinach and topped with a sundried tomato dressing.
  5. Blackberry, Honey and Yogurt Pops – Forget the packaged fruit pops that at artificial color for who-knows-what reason, these pops get their color from ripe blackberries and the rest of the ingredients are fresh and healthy.
