America has chosen its favorite farmers markets, and I am more than thrilled with the results. Why? The farmers market that I shop at each Saturday morning was voted favorite small farmers market, and it deserves the honor.
The contest was held by American Farmland Trust. From June 1 until Aug. 8, almost 30,000 people voted for their favorite farmers markets. In the last three weeks of the promotion, the top spots changed frequently, almost daily. I know that the Collingswood market was in a heated competition with a market from Fresno, Calif., and that top spot was up for grabs until the last day. I’m sure the Fresno market is a good one, but personally, I’m really pleased my market came in first.
What are America’s favorite farmers markets? There were three categories – small, medium and large.
- Collingswood Farmers Market, Collingswood, N.J. - 1,030 votes - Small Markets (1-30 vendors)
- Williamsburg Farmers Market, Williamsburg, Va. - 725 votes - Medium Markets (31-55 vendors)
- Davis Farmers Market, Davis, Calif. - 3,060 votes - Large Markets (56 or more vendors)
