If you want to avoid genetically modified (GM) ingredients at restaurants, you have an uphill battle ahead. The majority of restaurants use genetically modified ingredients — even "healthy" restaurants. That was why I was sad when I found out that Chipotle wouldn't release an ingredient list to the public when food blogger Food Babe requested it.
I like Chipotle a lot, but I also like knowing what's in my food.
After a petition, social media attention, and some blog posts, Chipotle has released a food ingredient list! I am so happy that the company decided to do this, though I was disappointed that so many of the dishes contain soybean oil, which is genetically modified in the vast majority of cases. For those who care about this issue, Food Babe offered her "GM-free" Chipotle salad idea as follows:
Organic black beans
Salsa of choice (but not the one with corn)
A huge serving of guacamole
Sour cream and/or cheese
But what I really love about this story is how one blogger was able to make positive changes in a mainstream restaurant chain! I find that inspiring. Kudos to Food Babe and to Chipotle!
