Here I go talking about family dinner again. A couple of weeks ago, I linked to 150 family dinner conversation starters. Since then, I have discovered an app for iPhone and iPad that has more conversation starters at the dinner table. It’s called Chow Chat.
Chow Chat consists of more than 350 conversations starters in three categories: fun facts, quotes and proverbs. After each fact, quote or proverb there is a question.
Here’s an example of a fun fact. “Serving ice cream on cherry pie was once illegal in Kansas. What is the silliest rule you have had to follow? What purpose do you think the rule served?”
The conversation starters in this app seem best for nights when there isn’t a lot of time but you want to do more than stuff your face and ask your kids “What did you do in school today.” You’ll get to know your kids a little better, and they’ll get to know you a little better when you respond to their answers.
The app would also be great for car rides, too. Ask everyone to put away their gaming systems and smart phones (except for the person reading from the app, of course), and get a lively conversation going.
Chow Chat was developed by Shoe the Goose and costs $.99. The app is rated 4+.
