Families attended the Easter Egg Roll this past Monday, but the emphasis was definitely not on chocolate eggs and bunnies. This year, when President and Mrs. Obama welcomed families to the lawn for the festivities, White House chefs were joined by celebrity chefs including Jaques Pepin and Carla Hall from “Top Chef” for cooking demonstrations and more. 

 

At the Play with Your Food activity area, families were invited to shop at the Family Farmer’s Market and participate in a Make-Your-Own Garden station. They also got a lesson on bees and pollination at the Buzzing About Bees station, which featured the White House beehives.

 

In this video, Pepin talks about the importance of cooking with your kids and demonstrates how to make crepes using organic and local ingredients, including some right from the White House garden.
