Free Food (Inc.)

A fast-food restaurant that wants you to see Food, Inc.? Can it be true? Yep -- and they'll even pay for your ticket.

Earlier this week, I told you to take someone who doesn’t know about our broken food system to see the movie Food, Inc. Chipotle, one of MNN’s top 10 organic fast-food picks, is about to make that a whole lot less expensive for you to do so.

Starting next week, Chipotle is hosting free screenings of Food, Inc. across the country. The company thinks the issues raised are “important and complex” (I certainly agree) and wants to give everyone the chance to attend a viewing.

Free screenings begin at 7:30. Seating is limited. For a complete list of cities and theaters where the screenings will be held, click here.

I’d like to thank reader Kathy from the Georgia Green Dining Guide for bringing this to my attention in the comments of my Food, Inc. piece. (Kathy – I’ve even stolen the title of your comment as the title of this post.)

Ironically, the director of Food, Inc Robert Kenner and the co-producer Eric Schlosser have criticized Chipotle for it’s failure to fully address the exploitation of farmworkers in Florida who pick tomatoes bought by the company. Find the open letter to Chipotle signed by them and other prominent sustainable food activists by going to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers website: .... More

A meat eater who rides a bike as his full time vehicle leaves a larger carbon footprint than a vegan who drives a Hummer H1 as his full time vehicle.

Not if that meat eater was eco-conscience and used the entire animal and did not waste it. Eating the whole animal is considered a sustainable practice. A lot of restaurants in New York are starting to do this, aware of how much of the meat is wasted. http://tinyurl.com/ouunsd

McDonalds owns Chipotle and they are one of the antagonists of Food Inc. Maybe it is an ingenious marketing plan of McDonalds to get the whole market share?! So one day the whole world will consume MdDonalds products, the fat unhealthy people eat McDonalds and the health conscious organic-heads will eat Chipotle. It's crazy to think that this movie will probably help the patronage and market-share of McDonalds. Say what you want about McDonalds Corp. but their marketing department is.... More

As of 2006, McDonalds had completely pulled out of its investment in the Chipotle chain.

Here's a press release about the separation

I was planning to attend in Fort Lauderdale. I called the cinema it's playing at to see if tickets could be receive in advance, they told me I had to go through Chipotle to get the tickets. Doesn't say that anywhere on Chipotle's website.
