Are you working at mastering the art of sustainable cooking or perhaps even taking it one sustainable cooking step at a time? There’s a contest you might be interested in.

Brighter Planet is sponsoring a “Mastering the Art of Sustainable Cooking” contest, and they want those who have already begun to reduce their “foodprints” to share their experiences and perhaps win some prizes.

How does it work?

Just browse through the cooking conservation tips, and submit stories and photos of how you reduce your impact for each category you’re interested in. As you’re poking around, be sure to give a nod to other experiences you like — at the end of the contest, stories with the most “thumbs-up” will be rated against the judging criteria.

There are five main conservation tip categories:

  1. Menu and Dining Planning
  2. Ingredients
  3. Food Sources
  4. Techniques
  5. Appliances, Gadgets and Gizmos

They’ve got an impressive panel of judges. Does the name Alice Waters ring a bell? I’m sure it does. She is joined by several other leaders of the sustainable food movement.

The top winners (one in each category) will win a Kindle DX and a $100 gift certificate to load it with cookbooks. There will also be random other prizes to “striking entries” of their choice. The contest runs through Dec. 31, 2009, and winners will be announced in Janurary.
