Michelle Obama: An iron chef?

The first lady and her kitchen garden to be featured on Iron Chef America.

Thu, Dec 10 2009 at 12:25 PM EST

On Janurary 3, 2010, there’s going to be a very special episode of Iron Chef America that host Alton Brown advises, “you simply will not want to miss.” The secret ingredient in this episode's competition is “of national importance.” It’s something from the White House kitchen garden.

Michelle Obama will be making an appearance on this Super Chef Battle, but she won’t be competing. White House executive chef Cristeta Comerford will be teaming with Iron Chef Bobby Flay to battle it out with Iron Chef Mario Batali who is teamed with Super Chef Emeril Lagasse.

This sounds like a whole lot of fun to me. If you’ve never watched the Iron Chef, it’s usually a competition between one of the Iron Chefs and one other well-known chef who have to create dishes from a secret ingredient – one that is not known to them until minutes before the timed competition starts. Part of the fun is watching them run around their cooking areas trying to get things done, and the other part of the fun is listening to Alton Brown trying to comment on a cooking show like it’s a sporting event.

food is for tasting 01/03/2010 21:47 PM

I see that 'food should remain neutral' is going around posting this inane comment on all the blogs he can find. I suppose all the libraries, schools, and cities participating in Laura Bush's wonderful Big Read are being somehow partisan? How is using the White House garden political, except to someone who just hates the Obamas so much he can't stand to see Michelle on TV for two minutes?

Weak. Really weak. Perhaps this guy is mad about her fight against childhood obesity. .... More

Food Should Remain Neutral 01/02/2010 13:30 PM

Food network should remain neutral in the culture war by doing things like supporting Share Our Strength like they are now. As soon as I saw the first ad I knew that not only would no one that I know watch the program but that FN blew it bit time by failing to remain neutral. No one wants to watch FN to see political non-sense like this. I don't know the political leanings of the chefs or the network and I don't care to know. This show blew it big time and I and everyone I know will be.... More
