I’m almost always disappointed when I order some fancy ice cream something or other when we go out for ice cream. Whether it’s because mix-ins are often hard and stale or hot fudge often tastes like plastic, I've find that a simple sugar cone filled with basic ice cream (preferably made from all-natural ingredients) ends up being the most delicious choice.

 

So I have to wonder how this summer’s crazy ice cream creations, which are very popular, would actually taste. Ice cream in the form of sushi cupcakes at Marble Slab, pizza at Friendly’s, or burgers at Carl’s Jr. are novelties that catch people’s attention, but they don’t sound all that appealing to me. Give me a cone with a big scoop of cookies and cream, and I’ll be happy.

 

If you’ve found yourself lured in by the promise of an ice cream sushi cupcake (or other novelty ice cream dessert) only to be left wanting for something more simple, head to the nearest grocery store and grab a container of one of the ice creams that we’ve touted here on MNN in the past (some of them are vegan) and a box of cones. Head home and have a satisfying, sweet treat that you can share with others that probably cost a lot less, too.
