Paula Deen is bringing her favorite recipes from her your family to yours, by way of the prepared food aisle in your grocery store. She’s launching a new brand of prepared foods, Paula Deen Foods that will be sold nationwide and add to her existing products available like Smithfield pork products, cookware and even furniture.
Her website says that these foods will cover her traditional recipes as well as lighter versions. The specific traditional recipes that will be transformed into prepared foods have not been released yet. Let’s just hope we won’t be able to purchase her famous cheeseburger on a Krispy Kreme donut bun in the grocery store.
Paula Deen Foods will be available sometime this fall at stores like Target, Walmart, and Kroger. It will be interesting to see how the successful the sales of these prepared foods go, especially after the backlash that came from the media and the public after she announced earlier this year she has type 2 diabetes. Many people blamed the foods she eats, those we can assume will be part of the traditional recipes made for her new food line, for helping to contribute to the disease.
I don’t think I’ll be picking up any her foods at my local grocery store, unless there are some big surprises like organic foods in the works. Her website says the line will be made with the guarantee of "the highest level of quality in its products," but high quality is not defined. While I probably won't be buying, I will be watching to see how the products are received. Will you?
