Every time I read something about Brooklyn, it has to do with how fabulous the food scene is there right now. Take Ortine Café in the Prospect Heights section for example. It opened last December, and recently started serving food that’s taken right from the gardens planted in the outdoor garden area.

 

Owner Sarah Peck planted an herb garden and an in-ground vegetable garden that will produce much of the food for Ortine’s customers. She also has all the pickling, preserving, sprouting and baking done in-house and the mozzarella cheese used in the dishes is homemade. Food not grown on premises comes from fair and sustainable producers who don’t use hormones, antibiotics or pesticides. This is one environmentally friendly café.

 

Ortine’s entire menu is available all day which means you can get the breakfast pizza made with two eggs, goat cheese, fresh herbs, pancetta & parmesan at night if that’s what you’re in the mood for. And, there is complimentary WiFi throughout the café and garden.
