Alice Waters was the keynote speaker at Natural Products Expo East two weeks ago. She had a lot of wisdom to pass along, and at some point, I’m going to turn it all into a post for you all. One of the things she touched on briefly was California’s Proposition 37, which, if passed, would require labeling of food that contains genetically modified ingredients.
Waters said that she had recently spoken with Carlo Petrini of Slow Food International, and he had told her that he believes that what happens in California will affect the rest of the country and be heard around the world. He said that if Proposition 37 passes, it will influence a global issue.
Polls have shown that the labeling of GMOs is one issue that a majority of both republicans and democrats agree on – almost 90 percent of people registered to both parties are for it.
Slow Food USA
would like everyone, not just Californians, to take a stand on Proposition 37. They are asking everyone to sign a letter telling the world and California that they are behind Proposition 37. The letter lets Californians know that you support everyone’s right to know what is in their food and that you believe that California’s outcome can reach outside of the state.
I’ve signed the letter. Will you?
