Many of us know that the expiration and use-by dates of most foods don’t mean that you can’t consume the food past those dates. This infographic has some information about those dates and some guidelines for storing food safely on the counter or pantry, in the refrigerator and in the freezer.

There’s a lot of debate in the comments on visual.ly about the accuracy of the information in this infographic. The information is taken from several sources, and I would definitely say it’s on the conservative side for some of the items. It’s important to be cautious, but you can also trust your instincts. Use your sight and smell to know if they’re still good or not.
