Top 10 Snowmageddon foods

An informal survey of what the snowed-in folks are cooking up.

It may not be the most scientific of polls, but here's what people on Facebook, Twitter, and around my (snowed-in) neighborhood are cooking up during the storms that are blanketing the East Coast. Last weekend, I cooked beef bourguignon during the first round of snow. What are others cooking?

  1. Chocolate chip cookies (definitely the #1 choice)
  2. Chili
  3. Beef stew
  4. Eggs and bacon
  5. Minestrone
  6. Chicken Noodle Soup
  7. Blueberry Muffins
  8. Spaghetti and Meatballs
  9. Homemade Pizza
  10. Hot Chocolate
There is definitely a comfort food theme going on here.

Is the weather keeping you indoors? What are you cooking up?

Living down a long snow-covered dirt driveway, I have had lots of time to cook - vegetarian vegetable soup, oatmeal cookies, whole wheat bread - the no-knead recipe from Family Circle, Feb.,2010.

Shepherds pie - made the proper Scottish way, with leftover roast lamb. I cooked the roast mostly for the leftovers. And spice cookies.
It WAS stone soup. I love that old tale.

...cookies! Just made up a batch of peanut butter cookies with Reese's Pieces. Pot roast has also been a favorite this week.

...though I"m tempted to make a chicken pot pie. One funny moment - my 15-year-old (who stomps around the house playing the role of "Vegetarian") just asked for pork chops. To my credit, I didn't even smile.

...we can get our hands on...just walking to end of block (in D.C.) expended more calories than a 10-stop daily ride on the Metro. As for hot chocolate, ours is more "liquor" which hot chocolate poured on top.

whatever is left on my shelves....do you remember that old fairy tale - Stone Soup - (or maybe it was "nail" soup) but everybody put in what they had into the soup pot & voila! a great meal. That's our block (here in MD) right now.
